EVENT: Public meeting to discuss water quality in the Little River watershed!
WHEN: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Jessie Peterman Memorial Library in Floyd (directions: http://www.montgomery-floyd.lib.va.us/hours_location.php?lib_id=3; 321 West Main Street
Floyd, VA 24091)
BACKGROUND: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (http://www.deq.virginia.gov) monitors and assesses waterbodies all over the Commonwealth. Periodically, DEQ assesses data collected in streams, rivers and reservoirs for compliance with Virginia’s Water Quality Standards (http://www.deq.virginia.gov/wqs).
Based on assessments, we know that there are some water quality problems on parts of the Little River and some of its tributaries. DEQ hosted the Little River Watershed Open House in September 2010 in order to share information about monitoring, water quality problems, the Total Maximum Daily Load study to address water quality problems and other watershed initiatives. The meeting on March 16th will continue our discussions of those topics and we’ll also talk about the next steps in the Total Maximum Daily Load process.
Thanks for your interest and I hope to see you on the March 16th!
